Submission Guidelines
Ravens Hall Press looks for manuscripts that will help readers and seekers to deepen their spiritual practice and become closer to their Gods, spirits, ancestors and environment, in keeping with the founding principles of Hrafnesseld Hearth and the Press. While books about magical technique, psychic development and academic works will not necessarily be rejected, we do ask that they be demonstrably relevant to our Mission Statement (i.e., that they will aid in assisting our readers to reform the connections with their world that we so desperately need). Thus, our typical focus will be on devotional works and works dealing with personal and group practice and ritual, particularly in the area of prayers and blessings.
Full-length Manuscripts: If you have a completed manuscript or manuscript idea you think is appropriate for Ravens Hall Press, send a query to [email protected] with SUBMISSION QUERY in the subject. Tell us what it's about and send a short sample or a proposal. If it sounds good, we will ask that you e-mail us the full manuscript (see below for proposals). If we think that your manuscript is appropriate for our focus and prospective audience, we'll let you know. If your concept is good, but its execution could use some assistance, we will inform you of such, and will help with formatting and editing for a small fee, or ask that you edit it yourself before resubmitting.
Proposals or Incomplete Manuscripts: If you have an idea or partially-completed work, we still want to hear from you! Our editors will be willing to work with you to help execute your idea, polish and streamline your writing and formatting, and get your book out on the market. There is a fee involved due to the more intricate nature of this service; for more information, please contact our Chief Editor.
Compilation Anthology Proposals: If you have an idea for a devotional anthology, but are not sure how to go about collecting submissions or formatting the end result, one of our editorial staff will be glad to offer advice and pointers. The final anthology will be formatted by Ravens Hall Press, with final approval by the compiler. For more information, contact us by e-mail, or check out our Call For Submissions example format
Prayer/Poetry Books: Like the devotional books, these may be single-author or compiled from multiple submissions. The Guiding Principles still apply, but formatting is less of an issue. We are looking for a wide range of topics, including deities, spirits, ancestors, seasons, and household.
Please be advised: If you want to make a lot of money off of a book, you will probably not want to utilize a small press such as us. A traditional publisher will be able to get your book to a much wider audience, using their broader networks and resources. If you don't care so much about the money, and you just want to see it out there - or you know that it's such an obscure subject that it will never get taken by a traditional publisher - then we might be a good choice.
